THE RRS GLOSSARY
Why it matters to a project
The report should identify the study boundary, sources, assumptions and gaps. Its purpose is to support a decision about the next assessment or mitigation stage.
PROJECT EXAMPLE
A developer commissions historical research before setting the scope of a ground investigation.
A useful distinction
A desktop study is not a physical survey and cannot demonstrate that every buried item is absent.
Questions to ask when it appears in a scope
- What area, activity and decision does this term refer to?
- What evidence or output will the project team receive?
- What limitations need to be carried into the next stage?
