GLOSSARY / Assurance & standards

Quality assurance (QA)

The planned arrangements used to provide confidence that specified project requirements will be met. QA considers how the work is organised and controlled.

THE RRS GLOSSARY

Why it matters to a project

The scope should identify the applicable requirements, evidence reviewed and the authority to raise findings. Any claim of independence needs to reflect the actual delivery relationships.

PROJECT EXAMPLE

An independent reviewer checks agreed documentation and observes selected activities against a project quality plan.

A useful distinction

QA is not identical to checking individual outputs, and a review does not guarantee every result.

Questions to ask when it appears in a scope

  • What area, activity and decision does this term refer to?
  • What evidence or output will the project team receive?
  • What limitations need to be carried into the next stage?
