GLOSSARY / Assurance & standards

Quality control (QC)

Checks applied to particular outputs or results to establish whether they meet the specified requirements. QC complements wider quality management arrangements.

THE RRS GLOSSARY

Why it matters to a project

The checking criteria, sample and acceptance process should be defined. Findings need to be documented and unresolved matters communicated to the responsible team.

PROJECT EXAMPLE

A contracted output is reviewed against the report requirements and agreed acceptance criteria.

A useful distinction

A sampled check should not be described as evidence that every unexamined output is correct.

Questions to ask when it appears in a scope

  • What area, activity and decision does this term refer to?
  • What evidence or output will the project team receive?
  • What limitations need to be carried into the next stage?
